High Notes Bootcamp

High Notes Bootcamp is now complete. But it’s not too late to access this series! When you order on demand, within 24 hours of receiving your order, we will email you the video replays of our four meetings, the complete bootcamp workbook, and all three high notes practice routine videos. Questions? Contact Julia: julia@singerspace.com

  1. Would you like to add an extra half step or more to the top of your usable vocal range?

  2. Would you like the highest note or two that you can already sing to become more beautiful, comfortable, or reliable?

  3. Would you like a roadmap for the technical concepts, the vocal exercises, and the time commitment that it would take to achieve #1 or #2?

This winter, Co-Vo’s High Notes Bootcamp will guarantee you at least one of these three outcomes. But depending on your practice habits, you’re likely to achieve all three! During this six-week experience, you’ll learn absolutely everything a classical singer should know about producing well-coordinated, healthy, shimmering high notes…and what it takes in terms of vocal exercises and practice to achieve them.

What does this experience include?

  • Four live working sessions, also available on video. Four 75-minute online meetings (Feb. 20, Mar. 5 & 19, Apr. 2), each of which will include presentation, discussion, vocal exercises, and masterclass sessions with participant volunteers (see below). All sessions will be recorded, and can be accessed on video through May 31, 2024 PT.

  • Three pre-recorded high notes exercise routines. You will receive access to three pre-recorded 15-minute vocal workouts, devoted to developing high notes technique. These videos will be released along with the first three live meetings (i.e., on Feb. 20, Mar. 5 & Mar. 19). You will be encouraged to sing along with one of these videos on your own, at least 3–4 times each week, throughout your bootcamp participation. All video workouts will remain accessible through May 31, 2024 PT.

  • Masterclass (optional). All four meetings will include opportunities for participants to sing individually, and have specific elements of their high notes technique assessed by Julia. Singing in class is optional; those who choose to participate will work for approximately 5-7 minutes at a time on a specific range of notes.

  • Workbook. You will receive an extensive workbook (delivered as a PDF document, in 4 parts) full of research, worksheets, and vocal exercises.

What will you learn about high notes during this bootcamp?

  1. Vocal cords. What is happening at the level of the vocal cords during high notes? How can you condition and stretch your vocal cords to make these actions more flexible and comfortable?

  2. Body alignment. What elements of body alignment and which common postural faults lead to success or difficulty in singing high notes?

  3. Breath support. What concepts regarding breath support do you need to master in order to sing high notes successfully? What are frequent misunderstandings about breath support that often block high notes?

  4. Resonance. What does it actually mean to “open your throat”? How can you learn the elements of facial posture, jaw opening, tongue position, etc. that lead to beautiful resonance on high notes?

  5. Diction. Why do some vowels and consonants seem to make high notes so much more difficult? How can you learn to pronounce with ease, even in high-tessitura singing?

  6. Vocal health. What elements of your overall physical health and lifestyle support healthy high notes?

  7. Vocal exercises. Learn a comprehensive toolkit of vocal exercises related to improving high notes.
