Five More Breath Support Myths

Have you heard it all when it comes to breath support?

Despite singing for years—or even decades—would you still be hard-pressed to define exactly what breath support is, or how to apply it consistently?

You’re not alone.

If you’re a classical singer who’s been around the block a few times, you’ve likely gathered a wide range of guidance on breath support. Unfortunately, much of it doesn’t add up. The suggestions we receive from one teacher, coach, or conductor often seem to directly contradict those we’ve received from another:

  • Should we push down and out—or pull up and in?

  • Should we breathe in the front or the back?

  • Should we take a nose breath or a mouth breath?

  • Should we use belly breathing, diaphragmatic breathing, or rib breathing? (And…are those actually different?)

The truth is, most of the advice singers receive about breath support is incomplete—sometimes too simplistic, sometimes too aggressive, and often missing key context.

In Five MORE Breath Support Myths, you’ll:

  • Revisit the original five myths Julia introduced in her previous free training—so no worries if you missed it (or could use a refresher)

  • Explore five new variations on these myths that singers are commonly taught, which lead to confusion, tension, or ineffective coordination

This free 45-minute session (delivered live on Zoom) includes:

  • A clear definition what breath support is and isn’t

  • Vocal exercises to help you experience appoggio—the total body coordination that singers use to pace their outflow of air during sustained singing

Whether you’re returning from last year or joining for the first time, you’ll walk away with a sharper understanding, new clarity, and more flexible tools for supporting your voice with your breath!
