The Tongue: A Singer’s Guide
Have you ever felt throat or tongue tension while singing that you couldn’t figure out how to release? Has anyone ever told you that your tone was “too far back”? Have you ever felt like your tongue was conspiring against you as a singer?
The Tongue: A Singer’s Guide is a 2-hour seminar and accompanying vocal exercise routine—delivered live, via Zoom—designed to help you understand the powerful role your tongue plays, not just in diction, but in vocal production. You will also experience the Master's Tongue Gym: a sequence of over a dozen exercises and tools to facilitate tongue release in singing!
You will learn:
The anatomy of the tongue
13 exercises for accomplishing separation of tongue and jaw, and releasing tongue root tension
Correct tongue positions for specific vowels and consonants, and common positioning pitfalls to avoid
The relationship between tongue and laryngeal function during singing
Advanced tongue stretches and tongue massage techniques
Best practices in monitoring the tongue while singing
The seminar includes:
90 minutes of interactive presentation by Dr. Julia Nielsen
30 minutes of singing vocal exercises (participants remain muted)
Ample time for Q&A
A 27-page seminar booklet, delivered electronically, including handouts and the notated vocal exercises
Unlimited access to a video recording of the seminar for 30 days after the live event
Date: Saturday, Aug. 6, 2022
